Darren 'Jimmy' Saunders
Parkas club member Darren Saunders has created a stunning replica of what must surely be the worlds most famous scooter, Jimmy's Li Lambretta from the film Quadrophenia.   Here he tells us how the scooter was built and a bit about himself and the pictures on this page.
The above pictures illustrate perfectly how good a replica Darren's scooter is.
The above pictures were taken at the Specials Romford Custom show in 2006 when the club entered a display. The unrestored 'BEFORE' Li is owned by local scooter builder/mechanic Ray Trappit, referred to as his 'Original-li', the 'AFTER' Li in the middle is club member Alec Tree's scooter that was restored by Ray.
Scootgraphics supplied the stickers for the project, these pictures are from their website. If you are are after some stickers for your scooter they are well worth checking out, there is a link to their website further down the page.
The Thurrock Gazette ran this article on Darren and his Jimmy scooter in their September 1, 2006 edition.
Here's Darren on another familar scooter, 'Aceface' Stings scooter in Brighton!
This is Darren at the Isle Of Wight 2006, wearing the red Jimmy jacket he had tailor made for him whilst on a trip to Thailand.

Also in this picture is Darrens good friends John & June Hill.
On the same trip to the Isle Of Wight Darren gaves us all a laugh by reenacting the famous scene in Quadrophenia where Jimmy jumps from the balcony of the ballroom into the crowd below. Only this time there was no crowd below so thankfully he stopped short of actually jumping!
Fast forward to 2009 and once again on one of his trips to Brighton Darren bumps into one of his heroes the legend that is Suggs from Madness.   Also taken on the same trip is this photo of Darren standing outside the cafe that featured in the film Quadrophenia.
Darren has been learning to play the drums and has recently joined the Feb21's, you can check them out by clicking the bands logo to be taken to their myspace band site. They already have some catchy original numbers written by lead singer Gary Kent which you can listen to on their site.   If you want to contact Darren about his scooter, the Feb21's or his other interests etc he can be contacted on 01375 673037 or by email at dal68@aol.com .
Darren is also a tiler by trade working for his brothers firm Design and Tile check them out if you need any tiling done by visiting their website at www.designandtile.co.uk . Darren is also available for general decorating jobs, contact details above if you would like a quote.
A few words from Darren...
The Jimmy scooter took one and a half years to build, most of the parts were hard to get hold of but I managed to get most of them through Allstyle Scooters down in Portsmouth. All the stickers were done by Scootgraphics, the hardest thing to track down was the embellishers which came from Gran Sport in Birmingham, I tried everywhere to get a pair but only Gran Sport had one pair left (lucky me).The Jimmy megaphone exhaust I managed to get the last one from Allstyles as I have been told Ken Cobbin is no longer making them.

I have showed the scooter once at the Specials Romford Custom back in 2006 as part of a club display but to be honest I prefer riding it than showing it.

The GS photo is from when I went to a scooter weekend down in Brighton with my mate Simon Whealies and there on the seafront was Stings scooter as was used in the film which is owned buy a friend called Dave who is from Gloucestshire. When I saw the scooter my chin dropped to the ground it made my weekend, it was great sitting on Stings scooter down in Brighton, I mean what more could a mod want!

The newspaper clipping is from when the Thurrock Gazette ran a article on me, my lifestyle and of course the 'Jimmy' scooter. I've been in the mod scene since 17 and I will always be a mod.
Here is some links to the companies Darren used to help him build the scooter.
Steve's Jimmy scooter picture collection!
I think I now have enough photo's to convince even the most sceptical scooterists in years to come that I did indeed once owned a 'Jimmy' replica scooter and not just a succession of modern twist n go's!

Lastly I would just like to say to Darren to look out for Royal Mail postal vans, them posties can be right b@stards!
'You killed my f@*king scooter!'
